Read About Some of the Student-Led Workshops Being Presented at the 2014 D3 Conference
1. Slice the Apples- MS
o Discover how you can encourage all members of your student council to become involved members! At this parody of the Apples to Apples board game, delegates will discover how different types of people can fit into different roles in student council. If you like celebrities, cheesy analogies, and of course apples, this workshop is for you!
2. Taking a Bite Out of Stress- HS
o Everyone knows that student leaders tend to have more stress than usual. Learn how to deal with all the added stress of being a student leader in this wonderful food-related workshop!
3. The Roots of Leadership- Both
o Our workshop discusses the first three habits of becoming an effective teenager as outlined in the book "Seven Healthy Habits of Highly Effective Teenagers." By engaging the delegates with fun icebreakers and relating relevant information to everyday life, we are able to encourage routines that create a more unified student government.
4. Propaganda Party- MS
o Welcome to the Propaganda Party! In this workshop, you will learn all about advertising, (propaganda.) Warning, you will have fun!
5. Teamwork for Dumdums- MS
o Do you want to ski at this year’s districts conference? Well you can do that and more in teamwork for dumdums while learning and fine tuning your teamwork skills.
6. Say NO to the Status Quo- Both
o Our workshop is all about stereotypes and cliques in schools, and some common stereotypes and cliques that you see in everyday life. In our workshops delegates will be informed about stereotypes and cliques and how to prevent in their school and the real world.
7. Lifetime Leaders-MS
o Our workshop will educate the participants on how to become better leader. It has fun activities that will attribute to become a better leader. It also has examples of good leaders that will help them see how leaders function.
8. The Colors of Leadership- Both
o This workshop will display the different leadership personalities through a survey. We will then discuss them and do an activity to show how the different personalities work together.
9. The Spice of Life-Both
o It’s time to spice things up a bit! In “The Spice of Life”, we do just that! Delegates will be faced with very fun and unique challenges, centered around cooking and baking, designed to test their creativity skills! *Those with severe food allergies are suggested not to attend.
10. Solve the Mystery of YOU: Discover Why Individuality is Important-MS
o Our workshop is about finding your individualism and using it to your best advantage. Our main theme is mysteries, as your individuality can be a mystery at times. With our workshop we hope to help people become their own person, to think and speak for themselves.
11. Stress Less and Do Your Best-HS
o Between school, sports, a job, friends and family, stress is bound to build up. Learn how to reduce stress so you can enjoy high school.
12. When In Doubt, Dance It Out!- Both
o This workshop focuses on the stress that comes with being a leader. Participants will be engaged in Zumba activities. All participants should be prepared for a fun, physical workout!
13. Lead Through Positivity- Both
o In order to sufficiently motivate others to do their best, you must first motivate yourself- because you are the best! In this workshop, we will discuss and complete activities dealing with how you can find your own personal positivity, and how this will create magic in your leadership efforts, whether in your council or just in everyday situations we, as students, face in our lives. :)
14. “All Hands In”- Both
o “All Hands In” is about learning what role you play in the group and how each can be beneficial in their own way. It’s about creating an effective group and good group dynamics.
15. “Who Am I?”- Both
o “Who Am I?” is a workshop that shows students how to discover not only themselves, but also who their council is and what kind of potential they have. Students can learn how to manage their time and use resources to be the best they can be!
16. “There’s No ‘I’ in Team”- Both
o Teamwork truly is the key to success and this workshop will teach you all about fun ways to break the boundaries and create a stronger team! There are numerous ways to create a strong team no matter how many difficulties you face, and we’ll show you some of them!
17. The Melting Pot- MS only
o Just as the USA is a melting pot, so are our councils. Do you have any idea what accomplished people surround you? Come willing to toss your goals and accomplishments into the pot, mix it up, and share!
18. Put the FUN back in FUNdraising:
o This workshop is sure to show you how to make FUNdraising FUN! We will teach you tips for getting your council motivated, brainstorming exciting fundraising ideas, planning and execution, and making it FUNtastic. You will go home with FUNdraising ideas you can use in your council and maybe even some candy!
